Nomi Jahoda Kligler (2022): Watch me / rush me / slowly (Image # 001)
Watch me / rush me / slowly consists of a series of small oil paintings on panels and one 3 minute video. My paintings explore the boundaries of the body, and how they blur through constant and intimate interfacings with the world. I paint quickly, gesturally, and emotionally. I am not concerned with depicting reality as it is, but rather the material quality of my observations themselves. My video is another attempt at this capture and representation of experience. It functions as a clue to the origins of my paintings, and yet also as a meditation on the elusiveness of presence and touch. My touch outlasts itself in the paint and is captured with striking clarity in the video. These two traces of my presence press up against each other in the gallery.
