La basura del encanto explores and exposes the way in which people dispose of garbage and its life after consumers are no longer involved in it.The artist, Verónica Socorro Matos, a Puerto Rico native, collected garbage from different beach sites all over the island and incorporated them in her work done on found pieces of cardboard, giving it a second life while also drawing attention to the issues at hand of mass consumption and improper disposal of waste. While garbage is the main focus of her thesis, Socorro Matos also weaves in iconographic elements of her homeland to illustrate the two conflicting images she finds herself troubled by when frequenting popular beaches in Puerto Rico.
