fluoxedreams began as an exploration of my relationship with medicine and developed into a rendering of the initial touch between pill and stomach - drug and body. Still images from videos of dissolving pills are reproduced onto panels of plexiglass from a multitude of mediums, each working to convey the process of decomposition, collapse, and rupture. Vertical space is activated by three floor pieces, each dealing with a different abstraction of one of the many facets of the act of taking medicine: purging, overdose, and emotional distress. Reflective surfaces are peppered throughout the different panels and superimpose one panel’s imagery onto another and the viewer onto dissolving pills, serving both as a space for contemplation and as an acknowledgment of the viewer’s presence and movements throughout the gallery. The resultant body of work is a fantastical environment of floating and grounded hyper saturated disintegrating pills that are in conversation with not just one another but also the viewer. What once was a process concealed from the human eye and hidden away in the innermost parts of ourselves is now an external shared physical experience.
