Public House is a proposal for a public civic building sited in the Alfred E. Smith Housing Project in Lower Manhattan. Programmatically, the proposed structure is intended to serve as an architectural corrective to the sanitized, hyper-rational modernism of the Smith Houses. The design aims to restore some measure of programatic diversity to its site, providing a multi-use public amenity within which different types of users may intermingle, collide, and rest, both spontaneously and permutably.
