insomnia is an installation created to represent the feeling of fragmentation that comes with sleeplessness. Created primarily from tulle and paper, the materiality throughout the installation is meant to echo the fragility of the human body and consciousness when in a state of sleep deprivation. Color is used to code components of the pieces as representations of physicality in the use of greyscale, and the subconscious space in the use of red. This installation comprises two main components, a hallway piece and a main room, which tackle different facets of the larger theme. The hallway piece takes on illustrating a busying mind, and the disorienting physical frustration that comes with it. The main room aims to confront the romanticization of night, while portraying the anonymous awareness of one’s own physicality that accompanies insomnia.
