Elsie’s Death Party, Or Something More Festive is a one-act solo performance play about a woman who suffers an untimely death and decides to host her own funeral before she can finally allow herself to turn the lights off, so to speak. In addition to the play text itself, I have written an Artist’s Statement and Companion Piece in which I discuss the process of creating this play. The Artist's Statement and Companion Piece follows the text of the play. The final component of my thesis is a recorded staged reading, which also includes edited video footage from my family archive. I directed this reading, performed the role of Elsie, and managed the production of the recorded performance.
