The Gathering: An Oral Heirloom is a trans-generational memoir of childhood. Told through the voices of my grandmother, mother, and myself, this thesis aims to connect our coming of age stories across their decades of distance. This lens attempts to capture the way in which childhood is both lost and lingering and to come to terms with the turbulence of change during adolescence, especially for feminine bodies. Through seeing these stories side by side, each character is not just a grandmother, mother, or daughter, but exists in the multiplicities of the past and present, of here and there, as we each grapple with becoming ourselves.
