Much to the detriment of autistic people, early discourses of humanity and citizenship, in addition to early understandings of behavior, and in particular autistic behavior, inform todays autism research and narratives, Today however, autistic people are starting to emphasize new narratives of emotionality and individuality, and call for these narratives to take precedence over clinical and academic accounts of autism.
