In this interview with Heather Zavod, John Biddiscombe recounts his experiences during his tenure at Wesleyan from 1974 to 2013 as a coach with increasingly larger roles in Wesleyan’s Physical Education and Division III sports teams. During this time, he dealt with the implication of Title IX and worked to integrate co-ed teams with the help of President Colin Campbell. During this time he also joined the NCAA Division III Management Council and later its Executive Committee. John also worked with Athletic Director Mike Whelan, President Michael Roth, President Bill Chace, President Douglas Bennet, and Alan Dachs, the Chair Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University. John also participated with the NESCAC, CFA heads Jean Shaw and later Pam Tatge, and started the Physical Education Advisory Committee, Athletics Advisory Council, United Way, and Community Foundation of Middlesex County.
